Cambridge Isotope Laboratories and CellFree Sciences (CFS) Announce Distribution Agreement

Friday, August 8, 2008

CIL, the world’s leader in the manufacturing of stable isotope-labeled research chemicals, has entered into a distributor agreement with CellFree Sciences Co., Ltd. for the distribution of CFS’s WEPRO® Expression Kits and reagents for cell-free protein production for NMR and mass spectrometry applications in North America and Europe. CIL will provide stable isotope-enriched amino acids as a component in the WEPRO Expression Kits.

CIL is the premier supplier of stable isotopes for research applications in proteomics, genomics, molecular biology, metabolic research, clinical and diagnostic research and ultra-trace environmental analysis. For more than 35 years CIL has provided over 15,000 different research compounds to its base of over 35,000 medical, pharmaceutical, academic and government customers.

CellFree Sciences Co., Ltd. (CFS) was established in Yokohama, Japan, in 2002. CFS’s ENDEXT® technology signifies the wheat germ cell-free protein synthesis technology that was developed by Professor Yaeta Endo of Ehime University. The wheat germ lysate produced by the new technology is free of translation inhibitors, and, as a result, it permits remarkably stable in vitro protein synthesis. The eukaryotic origin of the ENDEXT wheat germ lysate has made it possible to produce a broad range of difficult-to-express proteins.

According to Maureen Duffy, CIL’s vice president of Sales and Marketing, “We are excited to partner with CFS as a distributor of their wheat germ-based cell-free product line. Their WEPRO Expression Kits and Reagents for cell-free production are a perfect complement to CIL’s biomolecular NMR and mass spec product lines.”
