Mitigation Measures for Malathion

Malathion is an organophosphate insecticide that is mostly used to control foliage and soil insects. Recently, the US EPA implemented the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s nationwide final biological opinion (BiOp) to protect endangered and threatened species from malathion. The mitigation measures outlined in the BiOp include no spray zones and reduced application to protect 78 listed species.1 In addition, the US EPA is also working to implement the National Marine Fisheries Service’s nationwide final BiOp for malathion, chlorpyrifos, and diazinon by December 30, 2023. More information about this BiOp can be accessed here.

CIL offers stable isotope-labeled and native malathion standards, as well as its major metabolite malathion diacid, for comprehensive environmental, food, water, and exposure analysis studies.
